Iverson Field

The Iverson Field Service Centre (FSC) provides technical resources, land, buildings and equipment to University staff, students, and external organisations for field-based research and teaching.

The complex consists of two main buildings incorporating a lecture theatre, offices, postgraduate student rooms, tearoom, showers, toilets, stores and workshop.

There are facilities for sample washing, dissection, drying and weighing as well as seed threshing and cleaning. A sample grinding room and facilities for cool storage are also provided along with specialised equipment for conducting plant-based studies

The Service Centre can be found on the corner of South Drive and Springs Road.

  • Iverson Field, a 13 hectare block, is located immediately to the south of the complex.
It is sub-divided into paddocks of mainly one hectare or less providing for much of the field research and teaching requirements of staff and postgraduate students at Lincoln.
  • The 350 hectare Ashley Dene Farm  is available for dry land pastoral research.
  • There is also a Nursery Greenhouse Complex providing controlled environments on Farm Road. It consists of 1,000 m2 of greenhouse space, 500 m2 of shadehouse space, and protected outdoor areas available for container based experimental and teaching work. A potting area and limited facilities for crop analysis are also provided. Potting mixes can be made to order.
  • The Horticulture Research Area (HRA) lies at the end of Farm Road.
It comprises 26 hectares of land divided into a number of sheltered blocks which allow for a diverse range of research and teaching.  Blocks include, nut trees, an amenity area, and a demonstration orchard. Other areas have been developed to allow for niche vegetable studies and field trials. A 2.5 ha teaching and research vineyard can also be found here.
