Te Whanake was established in 2005 as the Kaupapa Maori Unit of the Faculty of Environment, Society and Design. The Tumuaki/Head of the Unit is Sally McKean.
Te Whanake is a Faculty-wide unit situated in the Forbes Building, Level 3.
The role of Te Whanake Kaupapa Maori Unit is to:
- Oversee Maori curriculum development and delivery
- Maori research capability/capacity building
- Manage Maori student support
- Participate in Maori institutional activities on behalf of the Faculty, e.g. Maori Graduation Celebration
The Tumuaki/Head is also a member of Te Puna Whakapuawai, the institutional wanaka.
Te Whanake has responsibility for delivering the Maori Studies curriculum that comprises the Minor in Maori Studies subjects/courses which are available to all undergraduate degrees at Lincoln.
