Lincoln University enjoys a rural setting on the Canterbury Plains less than half an hour from Christchurch, the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand.

Lincoln University is a quick 25 minute drive from from the airport and the many popular tourist and recreational attractions of Canterbury.  You can travel from the airport by car, taxi or shuttle.You can even catch the number 81 bus from central Christchurch that will take you right out to Lincoln University.

Transport

Photo of students entering a Metro bus at the campYou can get to Lincoln University by bus, car or bicycle. If you live in the township you could even walk.

Bus service

Buses run regularly from within Christchurch to the University and return. Bus number 81 Lincoln is the one to take from the central city area.

Car parking

Lincoln University is the only University in New Zealand that does not charge for car parking.  Enforcement measures do apply if the applicable restrictions are not complied with.

Students and staff must apply for parking permits, available from the Traffic Co-ordinator’s office, ground floor foyer of the Hilgendorf building between 12.30pm and 1.00pm.  Car registration forms are available by clicking here or from the main reception in Forbes building.  

Visitors are to use the visitor parking inside Gate 1 on Ellesmere Junction Road, next to the Forbes Building.  They must display on their dashboard either a short-term parking coupon available from the main reception in the Forbes Building or their business card.

Any vehicle users who do not comply with the University’s Vehicle Registration and Traffic Statute are subject to the range of enforcement measures prescribed in the Statute, including fines, clamping of vehicles, and towing of vehicles.  A summary document is also available.

Bicycles

Lincoln University is surrounded by bicycle paths. There are ample bicycle stands and an undercover, lockable bicycle shed is situated beside Hudson Hall. A key for this facility is available from Lincworks.
