Short-Tailed Bat

Captive bats will eat some bait types e.g. RS5 pellets, Racumin paste. Will avoid aniseed and spearmint lures (Beath et al. 2005)
- Field trials show that bats are not likely to feed on baits (Lloyd 2001)
- A monitoring programme by capture of 269 bats and holding them for 11 days after a 1080 operation, showed none of the bats had symptoms of 1080 poisoning (Lloyd & McQueen 2002)
- Probably therefore minimal risk

Long-Tailed Bat

These bats not likely to feed on cereal or carrot bait, as they are considered entirely insect-eating, and forage in flight (Spurr & Powlesland 1997)
- Long-tailed bats have not been monitored during any 1080-poisoning operations (Spurr & Powlesland 1997)
