Members of the Department of Tourism, Sport and Society examine how people, individually and collectively, live well, flourish and succeed in the places they inhabit and visit, in the activities and pursuits they value, and through the land that supports what they do.
We achieve this through application of integrated theoretical and practical expertise, drawn from multiple disciplines, to critical inquiry into the issues and problems that our national and international colleagues and our partners in iwi and hapū, communities, agencies, and sectors see as significant and current.
Our approach to education and research is collegial, inclusive and supportive both within and beyond the Department. We carry out all our efforts with awareness of and responsiveness to te tangata whenua and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
