Taught Master's

Whether you are looking at a Master’s degree by taught, taught and research or research only, you will need a relevant degree with a B grade average in your 300-level courses and final year (full-time equivalent).
 
Taught Master’s degree are usually 12 months full-time in duration and are similar to bachelor’s degrees in that they are delivered and assessed through a series of taught modules and may include independent research in the specialised subject area.
 
You will need to apply online and submit:
  • Birth certificate or passport (original or verified copy of your birth certificate or passport, showing the same name that is on your academic documents)
  • Academic transcripts.
These must be:
  • Official copies or certified copies of all tertiary education qualifications either completed or partially completed and include the grading scale
  • Transcripts must be in original language and official translation.
You must also provide confirmation that the qualifications have been awarded. Please include one of the following:
  • Award Certificate
  • Statement on the transcript
  • Letter from the awarding institution.
Curriculum Vitae (including a statement of your career intentions)
  • Should be brief and must include tertiary education and any employment or project experience
Reference (one reference) required for the following 'taught' programmes:
  • MLA (Taught)
  • MPlanning 
  • MDesign.
The referee should be in a position to comment on your academic performance and ability to complete the degree. This referee form (Word 97KB) is to be uploaded and supplied to the referees. Your application can be processed more quickly if the confidential report is sent to us either in a sealed envelope or e-mailed to Mylinc@lincoln.ac.nz  The reference must be signed and dated to enable assessment.
 
Statement of Research required for the following taught progammes:

Taught and Research Master's

Master’s degree (Taught and Research (240 credits) and requires two years' of full time study, the first year of which is devoted to the completion of coursework and the second year to constructing, implementing and writing a research thesis.
 
You need to apply online and submit:
  • Birth certificate or passport (original or verified copy of your birth certificate or passport, showing the same name that is on your academic documents)
  • Academic transcripts.
These must be:
  • Official copies or certified copies of all tertiary education qualifications either completed or partially completed and include the grading scale
  • Transcripts must be in original language and official translation.
You must also provide confirmation that the qualifications have been awarded. Please include one of the following:
  • Award Certificate
  • Statement on the transcript
  • Letter from the awarding institution
Curriculum Vitae (including a statement of your career intentions)
  • Should be brief and must include tertiary education and any employment or project experience

References (two references)
  • At least one or both of your referees should be in a position to comment on your academic performance and ability to complete the degree and at least one must be familiar with your recent work. Research Master's

Lincoln's Masters by Research only (120 credits) requires one year of full-time study. To apply you must have an appropriate/relevant postgraduate honours degree with second class honours, division one or its equivalent (or higher).
 
You need to apply online and submit:
  • Birth certificate or passport (original or verified copy of your birth certificate or passport, showing the same name that is on your academic documents)
  • Academic transcripts.
These must be:
  • Official copies or certified copies of all tertiary education qualifications either completed or partially completed and include the grading scale
  • Transcripts must be in original language and official translation.
You must also provide confirmation that the qualifications have been awarded. Please include one of the following:
  • Award Certificate
  • Statement on the transcript
  • Letter from the awarding institution

A research abstract of previous project/dissertation or thesis
  • If applying to the Faculty of Agribusiness and Commerce, a Full Thesis is required and you will be required to submit an electronic copy of master’s thesis or honours dissertation. Applicants for a masters must also refer to the Postgraduate Handbook (PDF 2MB).

PhD

You need an appropriate/relevant postgraduate honours degree with second class honours, division one or its equivalent (or higher) to apply for a PhD at Lincoln.
 
You need to apply online and submit:
  • Birth certificate or passport (original or verified copy of your birth certificate or passport, showing the same name that is on your academic documents)
  • Academic transcripts.
These must be:
  • Official copies or certified copies of all tertiary education qualifications either completed or partially completed and include the grading scale
  • Transcripts must be in original language and official translation.
You must also provide confirmation that the qualifications have been awarded. Please include one of the following:

Lincoln offers a number of postgraduate certificates and diplomas to extend your studies in your chosen discipline. To apply for postgraduate at Lincoln University applicants must have a relevant degree with a B- average in the 300 level courses and final year (full-time equivalent).

Honours

An Honours degree at Lincoln gives you an extra year of study at the end of your undergraduate degree.
 
Please note:
  • Honours is available by application only, after the completion of a relevant degree
  • Applicants must have a B+ average in your 300 level courses.

  • Academic transcripts.
These must be:
  • Official copies or certified copies of all tertiary education qualifications either completed or partially completed and include the grading scale
  • Transcripts must be in original language and official translation.
You must also provide confirmation that the qualifications have been awarded. Please include one of the following:
  • Award Certificate
  • Statement on the transcript
  • Letter from the awarding institution.
Statement (the name of the area you're applying for honours in (e.g. ecology))
  • A brief statement of the project/research area.
Lincoln’s Bachelor of Agricultural Science with Honours (BAg Sci (Hons)) is open to Lincoln University students who have completed their sixth semester (normally third year of study), and passed all courses at a sufficiently high standard (B average in last two years of study). Students are required to have completed a total of 480 credits, with a minimum of 120 credits at the 300 level to attain a BAgSc (Hons). You will need to apply online and you will need to submit the 'Honours' Form provided in MyLinc (our online application system).
