Introduction

Note: this course is not offered in 2013.

Information systems auditing is the discipline that provides the people who wish to rely on a particular information system with an authoritative and objective opinion on the extent to which they can safely rely on that system.

An information systems (IS) auditor therefore needs to be knowledgeable both about information systems, and about audit practices.

ACCT 611 is a postgraduate level course that:

  • Examines research findings and current issues in IS auditing, and
  • Applies current practices and research findings to: the design of IS control environments and the performance of IS audits.

Topics

Students will familiarise themselves with current issues facing the IS Audit discipline, and with the professional environment in which IS Auditors work (e.g., professional publications, standards with which IS Auditors need to comply).

As part of this work students will:

  • Submit a literary review that briefly describes several current issues
  • Submit a proposal for a research project that will help address a current issue
  • Present one of the weekly seminars
  • Students will also gain an understanding of some of the activities involved in performing an IS audit review.
