Introduction

This course is designed to provide the students with an overview of horticultural enterprise systems in New Zealand. The course considers, for selected enterprises, the management and integration of biological, economic, marketing and management factors. This is achieved through the use of a series of management case studies of selected horticultural enterprises.

On completion of this course students should be able identify and describe the major factors and resources used in a range of horticultural enterprise systems and describes processes of land registration; ownership and valuation; patterns of land use in New Zealand and the legislative controls on land use.

The use of case studies will provide the students with the knowledge of how to gather appropriate information from field visits, library and other sources and with the use of budgeting and other appropriate techniques to analysis these enterprises.

MGMT 214 also includes a 3 day field tour to Blenheim, plus local field studies to horticultural enterprises around Christchurch.

    Examinations

    Exam dates will be available at the end of week five in each semester. Until exam dates are advised, students should not plan to leave the University until the end of the exam period.
