CertFS entry requirements

To qualify for admission to the Certificate of Foundation Studies you must be admitted with an approved entry qualification. The pathways with minimum standards are listed below:

International applications

You have reached a standard in your prior study assessed by the University as providing a suitable foundation for entry to this programme.

View other acceptable qualifications from overseas.


New Zealand applications

You must have been out of the New Zealand Secondary School system for a minimum of one year and be at least 18 years old when you start the programme. Your prior study is taken into account when assessing your application.

or

You are a New Zealand citizen or Permanent Resident (referred to as ‘domestic’ student) who will be 20 years of age on or before the first day of the semester in which they wish to begin their course.

If you have undertaken other study in New Zealand we encourage you to apply for an individual assessment.


NCEA

Three sections of requirements must be met to receive entry to this course via NCEA

Section 1
A minimum of 36 credits in total

Including: A minimum of 10  credits in each of two approved school subjects at Level 3
And: A minimum of 10 credits from no more than two other subjects at Level 3

Section two: literacy
Eight credits at Level 2 or higher in English or Te Reo Maori (four credits must be in reading and four in writing) These credits must be chosen from a selected list,

or

12 credits in an NCEA Level 3 English rich subject,

or

A pass at an appropriate level in an approved test of English. (Refer to English Language Requirements)

Section three: numeracy
Numeracy – 14 credits  at Level 1 or higher in Mathematics or Statistics and Probability or Pangarau
