Kapahaka is open to all students who wish to take part in learning and performing waiata and haka.
The group usually meet during University Free Time (12.30 -2.40pm) every Wednesday at Te Whare Whakakotahi, a space for Māori for hui, powhiri and wananga.
The Whare is managed by Te Awhioraki, the Māori Students Association, under the principles of Toro atu te ringa pumau ki te aroha. This means sharing in an open-handed manner (we share what we have and you share what you have in return).
Traditionally, the kapahaka group performs and opens International Night, an annual event which gives students, representing a large number of countries throughout the world, the opportunity to share their culture with the university community.
