Piece of show history comes to light at Lincoln University

24 October 2003

A slice of of Ellesmere Show history has come to light at Lincoln University as the staff have been digging through memorabilia in preparation for this weekend s 125 th jubilee of the University's founding.

The relic is a cup presented by the Ellesmere A & P Association to the University's predecessor, Canterbury Agricultural College, on the occasion of the 50 th Jubilee Ellesmere Show, 1920. It was presented to the College as winners of the "most points in longwool sheep" category.

The College was a regular livestsock exhibitor at Canterbury shows in those days, and won many cups and trophies.

The Ellesmere Show trophy is shown here held by Lincoln University staff member Shahra Walsh, who has been responsible for preparing a display of old cups and trophies for the 125 th anniversary celebrations.
