Louise bowls field for top Lincoln sports award

Team mates Nicola Browne, Amanda Green, Maria Fahey and Sara McGlashan joined Louise among a galaxy of sporting talent honoured by Lincoln University at its annual Blues and Golds ceremony on the campus tonight. (Wed.15 Sept.).

In last month's series of five one day internationals against England Louise was the best performing New Zealand bowler taking eight wickets for an average of 15.75 runs and she was the third best performing bowler of the two teams. Louise is on a Prime Minister's Scholarship at Lincoln University studying for a recreation management degree.

Thirty individual presentations were made at the Lincoln ceremony, six of them "Golds" for outstanding contributions to the cultural life of the University.

The Team of the Year award went to the Lincoln University Netball Team. The team won all their games in Division One of the Canterbury Senior Competition, gaining promotion to the Premier Division for 2005.

Seven different sports were represented among the Blues winners - including korfball for the first time.

  • Athletics: Sarah O'Connell (national women's 20 pole vault record holder and Canterbury champion).
  • Cricket: Nicola Browne (White Ferns), Maria Fahey (White Ferns), Carl Frauenstein (NZ U19), Amanda Green (White Ferns),  Maree Hannay (NZ "A"), Sara McGlashan (White Ferns), Zara McWilliams  (Central Districts representative), Louise Milliken (White Ferns), Toni Street (Taranaki captain).
  • Hockey: Alistair Addison (Canterbury U21), Hugh Copland (NZ Development Squad), Aimee Heaps (NZU18), Elizabeth Maister (NZU18), Andrew Nation (Canterbury Cavaliers), Jan Peterson (Canterbury U21), Alisa Ravji (Canterbury U21).
  • Korfball: Anna Teen (NZ representative).
  • Netball: Michelle Hall (Canterbury A), Jessica Langman (Canterbury A,  Canterbury Flames), Joanna McCaw (Canterbury A, Canterbury Flames),  Aliesha Rowland (NZU21).
  • Rugby: Hannah Babe (Canterbury representative, Black Ferns training squad).
  • Rowing: David McKellar (national champion coxless quad member).

Golds  -

  • Alex Lim Eng Ugin (President, Lincoln Malaysian Students' Society), David Chappell ("Open Mic" Night founder), Gabriela Gomez Fell (President, International Club), Bonnie Schaab (Secretary, Lincoln Environmental Organisation), Nathan Wilson (President, Christian Fellowship).


Guest speaker at the ceremony was world champion public speaker David Nottage, an "Australian-born New Zealander" and motivational speaker who spoke on the topic "Dare To Dream".
