A sculpture by internationally recognised Christchurch artist Neil Dawson, creator of the Chalice in Cathedral Square and other major works in many cities around the world, will be unveiled at Lincoln University on Tuesday 16 August at 12.30pm.
The sculpture is a large spherical stainless steel "raindrop". Neil Dawson, will be present for the unveiling by the University's Chancellor, Tom Lambie, and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Roger Field.
The sculpture joins the Lincoln University Art Collection which already features works by two other prominent New Zealand sculptors, Llew Summers and Chris Booth.
An earlier work by Neil Dawson, the "Nor-west Arch", which used to hang 30 metres in the air, suspended between the University's Forbes and Hilgendorf buildings, was destroyed by high winds. An insurance payout for that work has enabled the University's Art and Heritage Committee to commission this latest sculpture.
The sculpture is located in the circular planter bed between the Library and the Lodge. Ask for directions if you can't find either of these buildings.
