Lincoln University fees up ‘minimum that is realistic’

11 October 2007

Lincoln University’s 2008 tuition fees for domestic students will rise by an average of 4.5 percent on the 2007 figure.

The increase, confirmed by the Lincoln University Council on 9 October, stays inside the Government-imposed 5 percent tuition fee maximum.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Roger Field said that while the University agrees with the position of the New Zealand Union of Students’ Associations that fees should be minimised, the high cost environment in which universities operate today makes increases “inevitable”.

“Nevertheless, we have kept the increase to the minimum that is realistic and even at the new figures Lincoln University’s academic programmes represent value for money and are less than many other institutions.”

Professor Field says that the pricing structure at Lincoln University is balanced by a comprehensive portfolio of around 400 scholarships, with more about to be added.

“In addition, it is worth remembering that Lincoln University’s distinctive degrees such as Bachelor of Agricultural Science,  Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Bachelor of Viticulture and Oenology are leaders within their particular industries. So when you are investing in a Lincoln University degree you are investing in an established leader,” says Professor Field.
