Bigger, brighter and better than ever, Lincoln University’s annual Open Day sparkles into life on Thursday 12 July!

Bring your body and your brains out to New Zealand’s third oldest university. Yes, believe it or not, Lincoln was up and running as an educational institution before all those North Island establishments! It’s the way things are done down South. We believe in the importance of education and quickly followed Otago and Canterbury in getting the ball rolling with advanced education in New Zealand.

What’s more, many say we’ve got New Zealand’s most attractive campus   -  close to 60 hectares of splendid trees, gardens and spacious places, just a short walk from the lovely Christchurch dormitory settlement of Lincoln village.

Your body will love it and those brains will be bubbling with stimulation as you listen to talks, watch presentations and discuss all the ins and outs of university courses and campus life with academics, course advisors, student services staff, liaison personnel and students who already know that coming to Lincoln was the best thing they ever did!

The University’s Liaison Events Co-ordinator, Sarah Benton and the team of Liaison officers have put together an Open Day programme that will inform you, answer your questions, and encourage you to get all the benefit you can from your visit to the campus.

If you’re quick and get in early with booking accommodation you can even stay over night in one of the halls of residence for a special Open Day price of just $20 per person which includes dinner, bed and breakfast.

The programme for the day starts at 9.00am with a welcome and an introduction from one of the University’s senior academic managers and comments from current students, scholarship winners and others.

Then there are course advice and information sessions progressively throughout the day covering all the main degree and diploma areas.

But wait … there’s more! There are special tours to key places such as the Library the Recreation Centre and the Landscape Architecture studios.

In addition there’s a concert and sausage sizzle at lunchtime and … at times to be announced … two special “Hot Topic” sessions. From expert speakers,  passionate about their subjects, you’ll hear about contentious issues such as tourism and climate change and be entertained with tales from the history of beer brewing in New Zealand (yes, there’s a lot of social history and social science in that one!)!

Events co-ordinator well experienced in her field
For Lincoln University’s Liaison Events Co-ordinator Sarah Benton this is the third Open Day she has helped run.

As a Lincoln graduate herself (Bachelor of Parks, Recreation & Tourism), Sarah has been through the process of learning all about this great Southern university. While she is an Aucklander by birth, secondary schooling at Christchurch’s Cashmere High School qualified her for residency down here and two spells away haven’t diminished her love of Canterbury. First there was OE to the UK where she worked in the leisure industry administering different promotions and sponsorships, then time in Wellington as Clubs Development Officer for the students’ association at Victoria University.

When not organising events Sarah plays social netball for the Lincoln University  team and runs with her dog  -  recently completing Christchurch’s popular City to Surf event  -  but without the dog!
