The election is required to fill a vacant position for a Court of Convocation member of the Council.
The term of office for the elected member will be four years, and will commence on 1 January 2009.

Candidates seeking election as a Court of Convocation member of Council must be members of the Court of Convocation and must be nominated by a Court of Convocation member. No staff member of Lincoln University may stand for election for the Court of Convocation. Candidates must state their full name and address, the tertiary educational qualifications they possess and posts held. They must also submit a short biographical statement to be sent out with the voting papers. The biographical statement must be in a form acceptable to the Returning Officer. The nomination form must be endorsed with the candidate’s consent.
Nominations for the vacancy close with the Returning Officer, Lincoln University, at 12.00 noon on Friday, 31 October 2008.
Court of Convocation
The Court of Convocation consists of the following persons usually resident in New Zealand, being persons:
1. Whose names were on the Ex-Students Register of Lincoln University at 30 June 1990
2. Graduates of Lincoln University
3. Graduates of the University of New Zealand, or the University of Canterbury who studied at Canterbury Agricultural College, or Lincoln College
4. Persons holding diplomas granted by Lincoln University, Lincoln College, or Canterbury Agricultural College
5. Other persons and classes of person as the Lincoln University Council may from time to time determine.
Claims for enrolment on the Register of the Court of Convocation shall be submitted to the Returning Officer. The Convocation Register shall close at 12.00 noon on Friday, 31 October 2008, and shall remain closed until 12.00 noon, Friday, 28 November 2008.
If a vote is required, voting papers (including information for voting electronically) shall be sent by the Returning Officer, to all members listed on the active section of the Convocation Register for whom the University has a current New Zealand address at the time the register is closed for the purpose of the election. Any elector who has not received a voting paper may obtain one by making a request in writing to the Returning Officer.
Scrutineers
Each candidate for the vacancy is entitled to appoint a scrutineer to ensure that a fair and accurate voting method has been used. The scrutineer will also be entitled to be present at any determination by lot in the case of an equality of votes.
The full name, address and telephone number of an appointed scrutineer must be supplied by the candidate to the Returning Officer no later than 4.00 pm on Friday, 21 November 2008.
