KiwiSport Challenge under way again assisted by Lincoln University students

27 August 2008

The Lincoln University students, studying Recreation, Event and Programme Planning under Senior Lecturer David Lamb, assist Sport Canterbury with coaching, marketing, communications and promotion of the Challenge as a practical component of their course work.

The Challenge has been highlight event for primary school pupils in Canterbury for some 15 years. Rebel Sport is the principal sponsor.

About 15 schools throughout Christchurch are taking part this year and the Challenge runs through until mid- September. The opening Challenge was held at Springston School on 21 August. In total around 5000 children will be physically active at some stage during this year’s series.

The aim of the Rebel KiwiSport Challenge is to encourage children to participate in a variety of sports activities in a non-competitive environment and regardless of age and ability.

Spectator support from parents, family members, friends and members of the local school communities is encouraged. The school with the most spectators in relation to children taking part wins prizes of sporting goods provided by sponsors Rebel Sport.
