The research team comprises Lincoln Ventures Ltd, Lincoln University, Canterbury Innovation Incubator, University of Auckland, and the University of Nice, France. The team will work with industry partners to develop new methods for measuring and processing electromagnetic signals and advanced techniques such as rapid tomography, signature analysis and high-speed measurement of scattered electromagnetic waves.
Four targeted applications have been identified so far for the following companies: Electrical Control Systems (Christchurch), Waratah (Tokoroa), Actronic (Auckland) and Tru-Test (Auckland).
Chief Executive of Lincoln Ventures, Graeme Robertson, said:
“We needed to demonstrate to the Foundation for Research Science and Technology that our programme would have very tangible benefits for industry. Our skills in measurement systems have very wide ranging applications from food safety to logging and mining so we’re extremely pleased to be working alongside four leading manufacturers to enhance New Zealand’s reputation in the global market.”
The funding grant is one of two successful applications by the company – it has also been announced that Lincoln Ventures will receive $5.06M over six years for a Biotechnology programme for investigation into microbial fuel cells using effluent or wastewater, and sensing methods for the dairy industry (see separate press release).
