From 1 to 5 July 2012, Lincoln University and the University of Canterbury will be hosting the 2012 ‘Bersatu Games’ – an annual sporting tournament, fully conducted by Malaysian students, for Malaysian students studying in all tertiary institutions throughout New Zealand.
The ‘Bersatu Games’ tournament is a truly unifying event where all Malaysians regardless of race, religion, or background come together in the spirit of true sportsmanship with one aim: To be the best they can and emerge the overall winner.
Each year, the ‘Bersatu Games’ tournament succeeds in attracting participation from all over New Zealand from the various universities that come together under their respective student organisations. The Bersatu Games 2012 Committee are expecting around 500 people to be involved including participants, supporters, volunteers, embassy staff and even local residents of the town.
The ‘Bersatu Games’ will mainly be hosted at Lincoln University and the University of Canterbury and will feature a range of sports including badminton, volleyball, soccer, tennis, netball, basketball, futsal, table tennis, ultimate frisbee and touch rugby.
The athletes and supporters will be staying at Lincoln University, and the University is also hosting the opening ceremony on Sunday 1 July 2012 and various debates in the evening during the week.
The underlying aim of the ‘Bersatu Games’ shall be the advancement of a sporting, competitive spirit on the courts with the establishment of lifelong friendships and networking opportunities among all participants of the games.
