When will the University open?
The University will open tomorrow (Wednesday 15 June).
The Library will be open from 1pm-9pm today (Tuesday 14 June) and the Recreation Centre is open.
I have been affected by the earthquake, can I get an aegrotat?
Students with exams on Wednesday (15 June 2011) and following days can apply for an aegrotat assessment. Aegrotats are part of the process that the University uses to try to make a fair assessment of all students.
I had an exam on Monday (13 June) afternoon/Tuesday (14 June). Do I need to apply for an aegrotat for those exams?
If you had an exam on either of those days you will get an ‘automatic’ aegrotat and will not have to apply for an aegrotat to cover exams falling on these days. If you have subsequent exams after Tuesday 14 June you will need to apply for an aegrotat to cover these exams.
Where can I get the form to apply for an aegrotat to cover the earthquake?
Please fill out the non-medical aegrotat form (PDF 212 KB) or the online form.
When do I need to submit my aegrotat by?
Aegrotat applications should be submitted as soon as feasible but by the end of the examination period.
Where do I drop off my completed aegrotat form?
Completed aegrotat forms need to be dropped off at Student Administration in Forbes Building when the University is open. Alternatively you can email it to Rodger.Treeby@lincoln.ac.nz.
Do I need to sit my exam?
If you can, we do encourage students to sit their exams as this may provide an opportunity to improve marks.
I have filled out an aegrotat from because I have been affected by the earthquake, how can I be sure I will get an aegrotat?
Aegrotats related to the earthquake will be accepted.
Do I need to get a doctor or counsellor to provide information for my aegrotat?
The University will not require documentation from a medical or other health professional for aegrotats relating to the 13th June earthquakes. However, you should provide a brief outline of the impact of the earthquake on you.
When will I get my grades?
Students will receive their marks as scheduled following the end of the examination period.
If I get an aegrotat grade, how is it calculated?
Unfortunately, we cannot make an immediate assessment of an individual student as this needs to be done by the examiner of the course.
When an aegrotat is accepted by the University, the examiner then makes their best possible assessment of the grade or mark that a student is likely to have received in that course. To make that assessment, the Examiner will use the internal assessment already completed by an individual student and may also use the performance of other students in the class and the performance of previous classes. This information is used to develop a predictive model of student achievement.
The grade or mark awarded is then scrutinised by a Department or Faculty Examiners’ meeting and further by the Academic Administration Committee. If a student disagrees with the grade that has been awarded, they can appeal it through the normal processes. All of these processes assist in ensuring that a student is awarded a fair and robust grade.
For more information see page 17 of The Examiners' Meeting Manual (PDF 220 KB).
If I sit my exam and the grade I get is better than my aegrotat grade, which grade will I receive?
If your final grade is greater than the aegrotat grade, you will receive your grade without the aegrotat. On your transcript it will be a clear grade and not an aegrotat grade.
My exam was on Monday afternoon or Tuesday. I wanted to sit the exam. Can I still sit the exam?
Exams will not normally be rescheduled as this may cause further difficulty for students. However, if students let us know through the aegrotat process if they wish to sit exams that have been cancelled, we will try to assess whether this is feasible.
If I miss an examination, will I be required to sit a special examination?
Special examinations may be offered by examiners if, for a variety of reasons, they are unable to make a reliable judgement about the likely performance of students who missed an examination. Special examinations are not automatically available if you miss an examination. A special examination has to be approved by the Academic Administration Committee.
Some examiners say on their course outline that I will have to sit a special examination if I don’t sit the scheduled examination. Does this mean that automatically a special exam will occur?
Not necessarily. A special exam will only occur if the grounds for that special exam are approved by the Academic Administration Committee.
When will I know if a special exam will be offered to me for an a exam I missed?
The notification of the availability of a special exam for your missed exam will be made with the release of your results. Arrangements for special examinations will be notified shortly after.
I am not coping. What services can the University offer to help me?
Normal health services are available with additional counselling services through EAP.
