A Semester One start date of Monday 14 March has been set by Lincoln University with registration, orientation and lectures all taking place concurrently.
“We fully expect students to enrol and start their year with us on the 14th,” says Vice-Chancellor Professor Roger Field.
“Staff returned to work on Wednesday 2 March after a thorough engineering inspection of buildings and facilities confirmed the safety of the campus.
“We are now fully operational and looking forward to the arrival of our students from Monday the 14th March.
“In effect Lincoln University is starting its teaching only a fortnight later than scheduled. Through some curriculum and course outline revisions, the required number of learning hours appropriate to courses will be preserved.
“There will be absolutely no diminishment of academic standards and the learning opportunities for our students will be maintained at their customary standard of excellence,” says Professor Field.
“Normal services have already been resumed at Student Health and Support and a free counselling service is available to students, staff and families.
“For those who travel to Lincoln University by bus, a service has resumed from today (3 March) and all bus services will be free for a period of two weeks.
“I emphasise that Lincoln University is fully operational. The key date for the return of students is Monday 14 March. The only exception is for English Language students who will start their next module on 21 March.
“The importance of an Orientation programme to help students settle in and enjoy the social side of university life has not been overlooked. Our Students’ Association (LUSA) has worked very creatively to produce a revised programme which we are sure everyone will enjoy. It will run parallel with the first week of teaching.
“In the spirit of cooperation and community goodwill which has so characterised this period of tragedy in Canterbury, Lincoln University will be supporting CPIT, and other education providers in the delivery of some of their courses.”
