Lincoln University’s Graduation Ceremony will be held this year in Lincoln township.
Amid uncertainty about access to Christchurch City facilities so soon after the February 22 earthquake, the University is returning to tradition for the 2011 event.
Two ceremonies, one at 10am the other at 2pm, will be held on Friday 6 May in the new Lincoln Events Centre, North Belt, Lincoln, each one preceded by an academic procession from the University campus to the Events Centre. Graduates and their families will return to the University Campus for a light lunch or afternoon tea following the ceremonies.
Lincoln University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Roger J. Field, says the venue change “provides an exciting opportunity for the University to assert its distinctive land-based identity and celebrate its historical association with the settlement of Lincoln which today houses a complex of scientific organisations and institutions unique in New Zealand.
“The academic procession through Lincoln will be full of both sentiment and pride for everyone concerned - those graduating, staff members accompanying them, and members of the local community watching. It will be a very special occasion for Lincoln and Selwyn District as we hold the most important event in the University’s year right in the community’s midst.”
Typically between 500 – 600 students graduate annually at Lincoln University’s ceremonies. Honorary doctorates, University medals and other awards are also presented.
