Lincoln University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Roger Field, who is also Patron of the Lincoln University Rugby Club,  says the University is delighted to have three All Blacks with direct Lincoln University connections among those named today in the  30-member World Cup squad.

“Rugby traditions run deep at Lincoln University” says Professor Field. “This year we are celebrating 130 years of rugby since our first team played back in 1881. Over the years we have had more than 30 All Blacks from among those who have been students at Lincoln University, including four captains  -  Wilson Whineray, Andy Dalton, Reuben Thorne and Richie McCaw.

“Now we congratulate Richie MCaw, Andy Ellis and Sam Whitelock on their selection for the World Cup squad. Richie and Andy are past students and Sam is a current student,” says Professor Field.

Lincoln University is celebrating its 130 years of involvement with rugby with a provincial road trip and series of reunions for past players and alumni throughout the North and South Islands in September and October.
