02 September 2011

Lincoln University’s Premier Netball team won the 2011 Christchurch Netball Centre Premier Championship on Wednesday 31st August 2011, beating St Nicholas 55-51, ending the season unbeaten.

“To win the Championship was exciting enough but to also go the whole season unbeaten is a remarkable achievement.  My congratulations go to the coach, support team, captain and all the players for a job well done” says Lincoln University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Roger Field.

Frances Granger, Coach of the Lincoln University Premier Netball team is ‘over the hoop’ with this year’s competition.  “The team has worked hard and it is a commendable achievement to win all 16 games this season.  The final turned into a nail biter but I stuck with my tried and true line-up.  St Nicholas were ahead of us for the first three quarters but thankfully we came back and took out the final and most important quarter to win by four goals.  My thanks has to go to all the players and support team for their commitment this year and I look forward to celebrating the season with them” she says.

The Lincoln University Netball Club is an open netball club that commenced in 2000 with two teams playing in Christchurch and Selwyn Netball competitions. The club has grown over the years and it now has ten teams, seven in Christchurch and three in Selwyn, playing competitive and social netball.   The Premier Netball team last won the championship in 2009 and was runner up in 2010.
