13/03/2017 2:00:00 p.m.

A group of Lincoln University staff members from the Faculty of Environment, Society, and Design are receiving widespread recognition for their work.

Landscape Architecture Associate Professor Mike Barthelmeh was recently appointed New Zealand delegate to the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) World Council.

The two-year role, which Associate Professor Barthelmeh held once before in 1992, involves helping to give New Zealand an international voice in landscape architecture.

He will attend annual regional meetings in the Asia-Pacific, as well as a World Council meeting each year.

He looks forward to working with colleagues on improving communications between the IFLA and the regional organisations.

In related news from the School of Landscape Architecture, Senior Tutor Don Royds has been elected as a member of the executive committee for the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects (NZILA).

The NZILA aims to promote the profession of landscape architecture throughout the country and is governed by an elected executive committee. The committee includes a president, vice-president and six members who manage the strategic direction of NZILA during their two-year term.

Tourism Professor David Simmons was recently admitted to the Council for Australasian Tourism and Hospitality Education (CAUTHE) College of Fellows, in recognition of his sustained and outstanding contribution to tourism education and research.

CAUTHE provides networking opportunities for academics and represents the interests of those who provide higher education opportunities in tourism, hospitality and events.

Sport and Recreation Associate Professor Mike Hamlin has been awarded fellowship status at the American College of Sports Medicine, which is the largest and most prestigious exercise and sport medicine professional body in the world.

According to the college, ACSM fellows demonstrate high standards of professional development and commitment to the goals and long-range activities of the institution.
