Māori student support
Haere mai.
Lincoln is proud to celebrate diversity and welcomes you to its campus.
If you feel the need for support or advice while you are with us there are several places you can go.
Te Awhioraki: Māori Students Association represents the interests of Māori students on-campus providing support and information and dealing with issues of Māori welfare.
They are a member of Te Mana Akonga (the Māori equivalent to NZUSA) and work with the Centre for Māori and Indigenous Planning and Development.
A Kapahaka group meets every Wednesday (12.30-2.40pm) for students who wish to take part in learning and performing waiata and haka. They practice at Te Whare Whakakotahi on Calder Drive, a space for Māori for hui, powhiri, wananga; to study, sleep, eat, and basically enjoy the company of all the different people who walk through its doors.
The Whare is managed by Te Awhioraki under the principles of " Toro atu te ringa pumau ki te aroha". This means sharing in an open-handed manner (we share what we have and you share what you have in return).
The University also offers various types of scholarships for ethnic groups and grants for Māori students.
Information is available through the LU Scholarships Office, located at Student Services on the ground floor of the Forbes building on-campus.
