ESET nod32 – Lincoln’s new anti-virus program

ITS has now rolled out ESET nod32 to nearly all Lincoln-owned workstations, laptops and notebooks as a replacement for Sophos. As with any new product, there is a learning curve to fully understanding it and we are continuing to work our way through the finer points of the configuration, but the roll out has been very smooth thanks to the efforts of the ITS Desktop Team. nod32 is a popular product in NZ academic institutions and is very widely deployed at a number of tertiary institutions including the University of Auckland, AUT and CPIT.

Unlike Sophos, there is no “free use at home” option for staff and students. There are a number of good free anti-virus solutions out there and we continue to recommend Microsoft Security Essentials and the free version of AVG for Windows users. Alternatively, you can purchase a copy of ESET nod32 anti-virus, or ESET SmartSecurity (includes anti-spam & firewall) for your personal use. If you do purchase a ESET license please note support is provided by ESET, not Lincoln University.
