Setting up DirectPrint
Users in the Halls please visit http://www.lincoln.ac.nz/ithelp/connect for more information on a couple of extra steps you have to take to use DirectPrint.
For on-campus XP, Vista and Windows 7 users:
Step 1 – Get connected
Make sure you are connected to Lincoln using either the Wireless Hotspot network or wired Guest network.
Step 2 – Windows 7 users only. Vista users go to step 3, XP users go to step 3 XP User's Version
Click
and in the search box,
type Credential Manager and select it from the list.
Click Add a Windows credential and set:
| Internet or network address |
*.lincoln.ac.nz |
| User name |
LU\your_username |
| Password |
your network password |
Note: Where it says username and password, this is your Lincoln University login details that you use to login to Learn with, (please add the LU\ in front of your username).
Step 3 – Windows 7 and Vista user's version
Click
and in the search box,
type \\v-rprint1.lincoln.ac.nz\followme_bw and press enter (make sure your user name has the Lincoln University domain i.e. LU\your_username).
Note: Select the 'Remember my Password' checkbox
Step 3 - XP user's version
Click
and select 'Run', then type \\v-rprint1.lincoln.ac.nz\followme_bw and press enter (make sure your user name has the Lincoln University domain i.e. LU\your_username).
Note: Select the 'Remember my Password' checkbox
Step 4 – Connect followme printers
Vista and XP users will be prompted for a username and password, enter it in the form LU\username with your network password. Tick the box that says “Remember my password”. Windows7 users: if you get an error connecting to the printer, go back to Step 2 and make sure your network password was entered correctly.
Your computer will now setup the black and white followme printer. You will be prompted to confirm installation of the printer driver and may be asked by UAC for permission to Continue. Confirm all prompts.
Note: downloading the printer driver can take a little while over the wireless network. Sometimes the confirmation pop-up stays in the background – keep an eye out for a blinking shield in the task bar. Repeat for the colour printer \\v-rprint1.lincoln.ac.nz\followme_col if you want to add it.
Step 5 – Check your default printer
The last printer added tends to become the default printer for windows applications. This could get expensive if you just added the colour printer!
To check/change the default printer, open Printers in the Control panel (or off the main menu in Windows 7). The default printer will appear with a tick, if you want to change it, right-click the printer you want to use as your default and select it from the menu.
Step 6 – Print
Note that you are printing to a remote print queue for the followme printers. Print jobs in this queue get transferred to the main printing system every 30seconds, or so. So bear that in mind if your print and find nothing comes out when you immediately rush over the printer and swipe your card.
