Bachelor of Commerce and Management
Ben McCambridge says his degree from Lincoln University provided the best possible start to his career in supply chain management.
Currently working as a supply chain projects manager with Polarcold Stores Ltd in Timaru, Ben graduated in 2005 from Lincoln, and says his Bachelor of Commerce and Management has been directly relevant to his day-to-day work in the cold storage industry.
“There are aspects of what I studied in my degree that I apply in my work constantly,” he says. “Things like process efficiency, improving the bottom line for businesses in supply interaction, and the nature of warehousing and manufacturing are all familiar from my studies. That provided a big confidence-boost when it came to embarking on my career.”
Ben originally elected to study a BCom (Transport & Logistics), but switched to a BCM majoring in “supply chain management” following advice from a lecturer at Lincoln.
“I received some good advice from one of my lecturers, and I’m glad I made the changeover because I found my niche in supply chain management,” he says.
Ben says he made good friends during his time at Lincoln, who he still keeps in contact with, and enjoyed studying in a culturally diverse campus. He is considering returning to Lincoln to complete postgraduate study in supply chain management in the near future.
“I think the quality of teaching at Lincoln is very high. There is plenty of opportunity to interact with lecturers and students alike, who are enthusiastic and passionate about what they specialise in,” he says.
