Bachelor of Commerce (Food Industry)
Lincoln University BCom (Food Industry) student Angus Taylor is hoping to change the way people eat and think about food.
“I’m interested in product development and the science behind developing new consumer-ready foods. I find that quite fascinating, and I think my degree has broad applications which will be able to take me pretty far - almost anywhere in the world,” he says.
Currently in his third year of study, Angus has completed eight weeks’ work experience split between companies Heller Tasty and Ωmega Seafood, and says he enjoys the balance between class and practical work, and putting theory into practice.
“I enjoy being able to put ideas together - sitting in the lecture room and realising I can turn these concepts into a product and possibly create something positive. It’s that kind of learning that translates to the real world,” he says.
“I really think Lincoln is a great place to come and study. It’s so relaxed and friendly - a great place to expand your mind.”
Angus says his parents were influential in his decision to study at Lincoln University. His mother completed a PhD at Lincoln, and his father a Bachelor of Agricultural Science, “so it was kind of the obvious choice”, he says.
As a first-year student, Angus lived in one of Lincoln’s halls of residence, and says his time there has been a definite highlight.
“Being in the halls was a great experience. I came to meet some great people during my time there. Taking part in all the social events, sports activities and inter-hall rivalry was really fun - and a great relief from the stresses of study. If I had one piece of advice for anyone new to Lincoln, it would be to get into the halls,” he says.
