“I don’t just look at a house and see a building any more, I see all of its design aspects and materials now. I see it from a totally different perspective as a result of my studies,” she says.

Lina says practical case studies conducted during her course have been valuable in applying understanding of class theory and gauging ability to manage and interact with real-life situations.

“The lecturers really go to great lengths to ensure we are learning current and relevant information that will give us the best possible start to a career in the industry,” she says.

Lina came to Lincoln University from Tonga after being awarded a NZAID scholarship, and she plans to return to Tonga and work in property valuation after she graduates next year.

The purpose of NZAID scholarships is to enhance the skills, training and knowledge of selected individuals and thereby contribute to the sustainable development of key areas in their home country.

Lina, who is a member of the Lincoln University Pacific Islanders Association, says she has found Lincoln to be an excellent study environment, supported by “helpful and encouraging staff”.
