“I really enjoy getting outdoors and spending time in the natural environment, so I chose a degree that could lead me into that kind of career,” she says.

As the world faces an increasing range of serious environmental concerns, Harriet says she feels confident knowing that the nature of her degree and its applications will be highly relevant.

She is aiming to work in local government or with a conservation organisation after her degree.

“I like the thought of working within local council or the Department of Conservation. Resource planning appeals to me, but I have yet to decide on my major, so I will see what else specifically interests me as I go along,” she says. “It’s great that I can afford to be flexible in my studies at this stage.”

Harriet says she is particularly enjoying the geological aspect of her degree.

“All of my papers are really interesting, but I’m quite enjoying learning about rocks and minerals, and earth science in general.”

Harriet is studying under a sports scholarship and plays for the Lincoln A netball team. She says Lincoln’s halls of residence and smaller campus create an open and sociable learning environment.

“I think living in the halls in the first year is a brilliant way to settle into uni life and make new friends. Lincoln’s smaller size is a really positive factor - you don’t have to look hard to find someone you know around campus because most of the people you already know,” she says. “Coming to Lincoln is definitely worthwhile.”
