Lincoln offers certificates in University Preparation and Foundation Studies, for those students who have not yet qualified for undergraduate degree entry.
Admission for both programmes is based on an assessment of prior academic study. They can be started in February, July or November.
The Certificate in University Preparation (CUP) one semester programme, is a second chance to prepare for university and is suitable for:
- students from New Zealand secondary schools (domestic and international) who have narrowly failed to meet the academic requirements for undergraduate entry
- students over 18 who left school before completing a full traditional secondary school programme and who are looking to re-enter the education system
- adults wishing to return to formal learning in the tertiary sector.
The Certificate of Foundation Studies (CFS) is a two semester programme and also prepares students for study at bachelor degree level.
- It is aimed at both school leavers and mature students as well as international students.
- It provides a solid foundation for study at tertiary level bridging the gap between school and university.
The curriculum covers eight courses and offers study in two parts.
Part A
- Computing
- Learning and Study Issues
- English Language and Communications
- Mathematics.
Part B
- Accounting
- Economics
- Statistics
- Integrative Studies.
You can substitute up to two of these courses with one of the following:
- Environmental Studies
- Introductory Science
- Te Tu-a-Uri - Introduction to Māori Society and Culture
- Te Aronui - Introduction to Māori Language and Practice.
Akoranga Putake is a customised version of the Certificate in Foundation Studies for students with a particular interest in Māori studies and a commitment to Māori development and advancement.
In addition to core subjects in computing, English language and communications, learning and study issues and integrative study skills, students can take introductory courses in Māori society and culture and Māori language and practice.
