Welcome! At Lincoln University we understand that clear, relevant, fit for purpose and well understood policies and procedures are our pathway to process excellence. This site is a comprehensive, current and strategically aligned framework of policies, procedures and related guidelines, tools and templates that provide a platform to support excellence, consistency and continual improvement in every aspect of University life. The documents contained here will tell you why, what and how we do things at Lincoln. If you find a document here, you can trust that it is the most up to date, official version.

Policies

Policies are a statement of the University’s position or intent. They are high-level in nature and rely on procedures where required, to describe in more detail how the policy is applied in our day to day activities. A policy is a formal, approved document and all staff, students and other members of the University community are expected to comply. By their high-level nature, they are not expected to require changes regularly, but will normally be reviewed every three years. Statutes and Regulations Statutes and regulations are similar to policy, but are issues so fundamental that a formal position that is approved by the University Council is required. A statute or regulation concerns good governance of the University; they are permanent in nature (subject to reviews); and have the full backing of the University. Generally, only the University Council can approve a statute. Like policies, statutes and regulations must be complied with by all members of the University community.

Procedures

A procedure documents the steps of a process so that it can be followed by anyone to create a consistent, high quality result. It is important that procedures change and evolve over time, and are subjected to a process of continuous improvement to ensure they remain nimble. Therefore, changes in our procedures are expected to occur far more often than changes to our policies. Procedures, like policies are formal approved documents and compliance is required.

Guidelines

Guidelines are less formal than procedures. They provide useful advice and ideas for consideration when addressing an issue. Compliance is recommended but not required. These are usually for internal use only and will not usually be available on the public site. Templates, forms, and other tools A range of other documents are included in this site to assist members of the University community in the deployment of policies or procedures. They are not formal documents in and of themselves, but may form part of a formal procedure. These are usually for internal use only and will not usually be available on the public site.
