Cam Holmes, Master of Applied Science

Cam is helping farmers save money in sustainable ways.

Cam didn’t have a background in science. Now he’s doing experiments with major implications.

His project is helping discover if strategic planting of competitive crops, like wheat, can help manage weeds on a commercial scale. If it works out, farmers could use less herbicide. That means more resilient crops, and reduced costs. He hopes competitive crop use can be added to the agronomic toolbox as another way farmers can make smart and informed choices.

Knowing my findings might contribute to more efficient, sustainable, and profitable farming practices is mind-blowing.

Before diving into applied science, Cam studied commerce and agribusiness. He’s passionate about the business side of farming as well as the science. His background has helped him get a full understanding of the issue from a commercial perspective, providing a sturdy base for the potential outcomes of his research.

"It’s exciting to think the insights I’ve developed could genuinely support farmers."
