Yun Yang, Master of Business (Global Management and Marketing)

After 11 years in the workforce, Yun Yang found Lincoln University to be the perfect place to diversify her education.

The Chinese student found the Master of Business (Global Management and Marketing) was the ideal addition to her career in media and marketing, but it was the campus’s unique architecture that originally attracted her.

“Of the eight universities, I chose Lincoln because I fell in love at first sight with the historic library building I saw on the university’s website.”

Combined with the positive reputation of Lincoln’s business studies, she knew it was the place to go.

“The Master of Business in Global Management and Marketing aligns perfectly with my career goals.

She was pleased that Lincoln had dedicated courses on supply chain and accounting, which were areas she lacked knowledge in.

“Filling these gaps has been incredibly rewarding for me.”

She graduated with a deeper understanding of how to market specifically to the New Zealand Market.

“I have also become proficient in writing comprehensive business plans and learned how to search for and acquire the necessary market data for projects.

“This knowledge has significantly reduced the challenges in my work.”

What she enjoyed most about the degree was the independent exploration and research-based learning approach her programme used.

“It is quite different from the passive learning style I experienced in China.

Studying in New Zealand offered her the chance to immerse herself in a unique culture and a different educational system what she was used to.

“At Lincoln, I have much more autonomy in my project research, allowing me to be creative and showcase diversity in my work.

“The professors appreciate this kind of effort, which not only enhances my proactive learning and research skills but also applies perfectly to real-world projects.”

During her studies she worked part time as a sales consultant at a local shopping mall, which helped her practice English.

In the two years she has lived in New Zealand, Yun has grown to love it.

Initially, I was captivated by the beautiful sunsets I saw daily and the friendliness of the people who greeted me warmly wherever I went. Whenever I needed help, there were always genuine and selfless people ready to assist

Over time, I have come to appreciate the high quality of life here.

“I have more time to pursue my hobbies and engage in various sports, experiencing the endorphin rush they bring. I truly feel the power of life and the joy of living.”

She enjoyed the newly renovated buildings on campus with modern multimedia classrooms, as well as the historic and charming heritage buildings.

I participated in few activities organized by the Lincoln University Chinese Student Association, which were very enjoyable and helped me make new friends.”

She also joined events designed for international students, including English language workshops and hiking trips, which she described as “truly memorable”.

Now having graduated, Yun is working as a digital editor for Haudu International Management Limited. She is responsible for social media, event promotion and marketing projects.

“With my extensive experience in the Chinese market, I am eager to combine this knowledge with insights into the New Zealand and international markets.

“This will allow me to further enhance my expertise and take my career to the next level.”
