Lauryn Hippolite, Bachelor of Science (Food Science)

Lauryn’s basketball prowess and interest in nutrition were both factors that led her to study at Lincoln University

After enrolling in the Bachelor of Food Science, Lauryn was accepted into Lincoln’s prestigious Sports Scholarship Programme, which is giving her the opportunity to play basketball at a high level while working towards a degree.

“I thought it was great to be able to do this in New Zealand, as it’s the only university in the country that offers sports scholarships like this,” she says.

She’s loving her degree so far and likes practical work the most, as it gives her a chance to gain hands-on experience.

She also enjoys the social side of Lincoln.

“It’s a pretty small university so you get to know a lot of people really quickly,” she says. “The lecturers are hands-on and it’s a close-knit place, which is great.

“It’s a positive campus, as staff make an effort to get to know you and they’re so supportive and understanding. The choice of courses is excellent too, as you’ll always be able to find something you like.”

Long-term goals and ambitions for Lauryn include owning a gym and playing basketball for as long as possible, so the sports scholarship will stand her in excellent stead.

“I’m also hoping to further my studies and go into nutrition or see where else a food science degree can take me but I’m really interested in it and really enjoying it,” she says.
