First semester at Lincoln an experience like no other

Danielle Bain is enjoying her first semester as a Lincoln student.
“I absolutely loved my first weeks on the Lincoln campus. It was an experience like no other. I have loved making new friends and settling into the halls.
“I have also loved beginning my journey as a Future Leader Scholar. Everyone on the programme is so kind and it feels like a big family. I can’t wait to help make a difference, further develop my leadership skills and help others throughout my time on the programme and beyond.”
Danielle is studying towards a Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree and wanted to attend Lincoln due to her passion for working on the family farm.
“I went to boarding school at St Hilda’s in Dunedin for five years, which is where I came to the realisation of how much I really enjoyed getting out on the farm. It was a real shock to the system going to town and not being able to get out on the farm after school and every weekend.
“I decided to study agricultural science due to having a passion for genetics, from the influence of Dad’s ram stud. My older brother is in his 4th year at Lincoln and was also a Future Leader scholar, which is how I first heard about the programme, along with lots of great stories.”
In terms of tips for new students, Danielle says to “be excited” and not to let nervousness overtake them.
“Also bring comforts from home such as photos or your favourite pillow to help make settling in easier. Join lots of different clubs and groups because it’s a great way to meet new people from all different year groups.”
