As the COVID-19 lockdown continues throughout NZ, around 75 students remain safe in their bubbles within our on-campus halls and flats. We would like to thank all of our accommodation students.
Accommodation fees credited for students unable to return
If you decided to leave your campus accommodation following the Government’s lockdown announcement, we realise you will probably be facing challenges as you adapt to a new way of living and studying.
To help you with this, we will credit all accommodation fees for students who chose to return home on 17 August or within the required 48 hour period.
What does this mean?
It means that if you went home from 17 August, or within the required 48 hour period, you will not be charged accommodation fees.
Depending on whether you have pre-paid your fees or not, the amount will either be credited or not charged for. The fees not charged for will apply to the period of time that you could not return to the halls or your flat (from 17 August until the date when we move to an alert level that allows you the option of returning).
If you decide not to return on that date, we will need to charge you for your accommodation from then onwards.
I am currently residing in the Halls. Will I be entitled to a refund?
If you’re currently living in the halls and flats, you will not be entitled to a refund, as you are accessing our accommodation services and support throughout the alert level 4 lockdown.
Is the university accommodation still open?
Our on-campus accommodation is classified as an essential service and is open. However, during the alert level 4 lockdown, we are operating under strict protocols, according to the Government's self-isolation guidelines.
Can I return to my halls or flat accommodation now?
Although we are currently looking after students who did not return home before the shift to alert level 4, we cannot permit anyone to return until the levels change. This is due to current government restrictions around travel and the requirement for people to remain in ‘bubbles’.
Will I be penalised if I cancel my accommodation contract?
Once we return to an alert level that allows you to return to your on-site accommodation, your current contract applies. This means that if you withdraw from your accommodation or decide to not return, the penalties in your current contract will apply.
