Enhanced biodiversity

Increased biodiversity and ecosystem services

Together with a wide variety of planting in and around the vegetated attenuation basin, the site boundary and areas within the site will be planted in natives and non-natives.

In selecting the plants, we aim to maximise the ecosystem services provided which include:

  • Provision of pollen and nectar at times that complement horticultural crops
  • Wind protection of crops within the site
  • Retention and filtration of surface water
  • Improved visual amenity values for the wider Lincoln community
  • Increased fauna habitat and associated benefits

An ecosystems framework – together with the circular economy – are the guiding principles used to design and operate the Energy Farm – ensuring we push the boundaries in creating new sustainable operating models for the future.
