Semester 1 Orientation

Save the dates: 10 to 18 February 2025

Orientation is your chance to get prepared, meet new people, and feel supported as you begin your studies. Attend compulsory orientation events, such as your faculty Rā Whakawhanaukataka | Orientation Day and International Orientation, to ensure you’re ready to start your Lincoln University journey.  

Whether you're an undergraduate, postgraduate taught, research student, or pursuing a diploma or certificate, we’ve got you covered. Whānau and friends are welcome to support you as you start this exciting journey.

You are only required to attend the orientation activities that are specific to you.

Step 1: Start with your faculty

Start by identifying your faculty. Use the 'Find Your Faculty Guide' to determine which faculty you belong to and then navigate to your faculty below to explore your tailored orientation programme, including:

  • Compulsory events like the LU official welcome, faculty welcome, programme-specific academic sessions and International Orientation if you are an international student.
  • Key activities and support services.
  • Checklist to help you prepare and complete your enrolment.

Step 2: Mark your calendar

View the 'Full Uni-Wide Orientation Calendar' for a comprehensive schedule of all faculty-specific events and university-wide sessions, including enrolment help, course and timetable support, IT help, campus tours, and the Mihi Whakatau. The calendar is colour-coded to help you easily identify your faculty and the tailored events for your cohorts.

Save the dates and make a plan to attend your compulsory sessions. Whānau, family, and friends are welcome to join you to provide support.

Step 3: Register for compulsory events

Be sure to register and attend these compulsory events to get the best start to your studies. 

  • Faculty Rā Whakawhanaukataka | Orientation Day: Tailored to your programme, this session connects you with your faculty team and prepares you academically. Use the link below to register for your faculty's Orientation Day.

Step 4: Access support services

We’re here to support you every step of the way. Throughout Orientation, you can access these services in Ivey Hall (Library) and the School of Landscape Architecture (SoLA) building. These services are available throughout Orientation (10 to 18 February excluding the weekend), so you can choose a time that works best for you.

  • Enrolment help, course advice and timetable support:
    Get help completing your enrolment, choosing your courses, building your timetable, and getting prepared for the semester.
  • Student ID card:
    Make sure your enrolment is completed before collecting your student ID card from Ivey Hall.
  • IT help:
    Receive guidance to set up your Lincoln email, learning tools, printing and campus Wi-Fi.
  • Campus tours:
    Join a guided tour to get familiar with the campus, locate key facilities, and find your classes.
  • StudyLink support:
    Get help managing your StudyLink account and addressing questions about student loans and allowances.

Checklist: What to bring

  • Orientation registration confirmation email(s): You'll need the QR code on the email to check in at your Faculty Orientation Day and International Orientation (if applicable).
  • Device: Bring your laptop or tablet to get help setting up campus Wi-Fi, Akoraka | Learn, your timetable, printing services, and more.
  • Original documents: Bring your passport, NZ driver’s licence, or birth certificate to complete your enrolment and collect your student ID.
  • Enrolment confirmation: Have a copy or email of your enrolment confirmation handy for student ID card collection.

Online Orientation

When: 5.15 - 6.15 pm, Wednesday, 12 February
Where: Zoom (Join here: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/83849670407)

This session is for new students studying on campus who cannot attend their Faculty Rā Whakawhanaukataka | Orientation Day on Thursday, 13 February, or Friday, 14 February. The session will be recorded and uploaded to Akoraka | Learn  during the first week of lectures.

For Online Study Students:
Your orientation is available through Akoraka | Learn under My Courses - Whakawhanaukataka - Orientation (Online). It will be available after you are fully enrolled. If you cannot see the course after fully enrolling and your classes are starting within a week, please contact us for assistance.

You are also welcome to join the Online Orientation on Zoom if you have time.
