Youngnam Kim, Doctor of Philosophy

Youngnam Kim is keen to dig in at Lincoln University and carry out more ground breaking research.

Youngnam, from South Korea submitted his PhD thesis, 'Interactions between soil biogeochemistry and native earthworms in New Zealand' and he wants to continue his studies post- doctorally.

He came to New Zealand to do his doctorate.  He studied Horticulture and Soil Science to gain a Bachelors and Master’s degree at the University of Seoul.

He had done his homework on Lincoln before coming over.

“There are two reasons why I decided to study at Lincoln University; it is well-known in agriculture and soil science, and I wanted to study for my PhD under current supervisors (Professor Nicholas Dickinson, Associate Professor Brett Robinson and Dr Stephane Boyer), who are researching my interest areas such as soil, plant, and restoration.”

He says studying New Zealand soil and ecology captured his interest and he even found some new species.

“I identified several new species of native earthworms and then investigated their beneficial roles and effects on soil biogeochemistry and ecosystem in New Zealand.

“I have submitted my thesis, but I would like to keep this studying more in Lincoln.”

He is a strong advocate for coming to study here.

“Lincoln University can improve your future life and fulfil your dreams. Just come, and enjoy the good research opportunities.”
