Eight Lincoln University students have been able to study with less stress this year thanks to a local organisation dedicated to uplifting Canterbury women.
Each year Graduate Women Canterbury provides scholarships to women who want to further their education. For the eight Lincoln University students, it meant they could dedicate more time to their studies and embrace the opportunities presented to them.
Having a scholarship enabled Bachelor of Landscape Architecture student Brydie Crates to travel to the Netherlands to further her knowledge at a Planning & Design for the Just City summer course.
“This overseas learning opportunity has greatly expanded on my knowledge and perspective in regard to my degree.
“I am immensely grateful to this scholarship for helping me see that dream become a reality.”
Master of Landscape Architecture Student Victoria Dawes said the funding she received meant she didn’t need to compromise her studies and could dedicate herself fully to her work.
“I would have had to balance a large course load with supplementary work. I am incredibly grateful for the 6 months of dedicated time to focus.”
Graduate Women Canterbury Trust Board Chair Megan Clayton said it had a vision of barrier-free education for all women.
“We want to break down barriers to enable women to succeed.
“We recognise that support is needed throughout a diploma or degree, not just at the start when scholarships are traditionally offered.
“That’s why we are supporting Lincoln by funding these scholarships for women who are experiencing financial barriers to their study in the final semester or final year of their qualification.”
