Mahika Kai
Course overview
You’ll be given an overview of traditional and contemporary mahika kai theory, custom and practice.
The main aims of this course are:
- To introduce students to mahika kai, including its historical and contemporary content in te ao Māori. Students will learn about traditional, practical and innovative elements of mahika kai.
- To develop an understanding and apply Mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge systems) through Mahika Kai practices, using a Mahika Kai calendar to explore how people care for and use natural resources.
