Haere mai – Welcome!
We are passionate about our connection to the land. We want to help you to shape the world through a better understanding of the relationships between land, food and ecosystems.
At Lincoln, we offer world-class research and teaching facilities and the student to teacher ratio is very low, so you will experience a more personal connection with your classes. There's a huge emphasis on field trips for practical experience and to inspire you, so many of our courses will take you out of the lecture halls and into nature.
New Zealand is the global capital of adventure tourism. From the mountains to the sea, there is beauty in every direction. As a university, we are determined to keep it that way, so we are heavily committed to improving sustainability through our teaching and research.
Add New Zealand to your résumé and excitement to your memories.

What can you study?
As an Exchange student, you can choose most of the courses listed in the course search, as long as you have the appropriate academic background for the course you wish to study. Please note the course offerings are subject to change.
International students are required to study full-time to satisfy Immigration New Zealand requirements. This means that you will need to study a minimum of 45 credits at Lincoln per semester. A full-time course load is 60 credits.
Undergraduate students
Undergraduate students can choose from courses at the 100 (1st year), 200 (2nd year) or 300 (3rd year) level. While the course prerequisite requirements are generally waived for students enrolled in Exchange programme, please do pay attention to the course prerequisite to make sure you have the foundational knowledge needed to succeed.
Please note that some courses may not be open to exchange students.
Postgraduate students
For Postgraduate students, this means choosing three courses, each worth 2 0 credits, per semester. Postgraduate students can choose courses at the 600 level but be aware that some courses are subject to the faculty’s approval.
We recommend students select and have two additional courses approved in the event of a possible timetable clash.
Steps to find courses and build your timetable
Begin by exploring the available courses through the course search and identify the courses you wish to enrol in.
Ensure that the course is offered during your exchange semester. You can find this information when you open the details of any specific course through the course search.
Review the course prerequisites and make sure you have the necessary background to enrol. Additionally, confirm that the course is not restricted to a specific degree program. Courses limited to certain academic programs are not available to exchange students. To check this, look for the phrase "Your Academic Program is" under the prerequisites and restrictions section—this indicates the course is not open to exchange students.
Once you have selected 4 preferred courses (for undergraduate students) or 3 preferred courses (for postgraduate students), check the timetable to ensure that your chosen courses do not overlap.
If any of your selected courses have overlapping schedules, you will need to return to the course search and choose alternative courses.
Any course selections you make before arriving at Lincoln are not final and can be changed on arrival when you discuss your programme of study with a course advisor. You have until the end of the first week of lectures to make any course changes.
