Charan Yuvaraj Sivakumar, Bachelor of Agricultural Science

Second-year Bachelor in Agriculture Science student Charan enjoys the hand- on experience he gains from his Lincoln University studies

From Bengaluru, India, he chose to study in Lincoln “because
it is well known for being an agriculture-based research university”.

“Because agriculture is the corner stone of our lives, this course, apart from teachings in class, gives us an opportunity to work with farmers and have a hands-on experience.

“I enjoy the lectures, but also enjoy the field trips a lot because it gives me an opportunity to see what I learnt in class.  I enjoy listening to a farmer’s perspective on things happening on a farm and seeing how he runs the farm.

“This helps me get a better understanding of my lectures.”

He also enjoyed meeting like-minded people and discussing ideas, and having group studies. The lecturers are also very approachable, he said, which makes it easy to clarify your doubts and talk about any ideas you have.

“It’s a university with a lot of opportunities and kind people.”

He has become involved in the University clubs, “where I meet a lot of people interested in various activities”.

“I like that I get to do some things which I could not back home, for example, the climbing, and tramping club,  and they are also good for making good friends.”

The University also has a student exchange programme that he is very interested in.

Charan works as a residential assistant at Lincoln University and stays on campus, where he meets many other international students.

He said a lot of events are organised by LUSA on campus, “which is awesome because, it brings together all the students and helps make friends, and you can also hang out when you want to spend some time away from classes and studies”.

He recommends prospective students to choose their courses right “as the University has a lot of opportunities for you to choose from”.

“The people are very friendly and approachable so don’t feel shy, just go and introduce yourself that’s all you have to do. “
