Isabel Schmahl, Bachelor of Agriculture

Working on a sheep and beef farm in Geraldine for two years led Isabel, from Germany, to discover a strong passion for agriculture

“I absolutely love the lifestyle it brings with it in New
Zealand.”

The first year Lincoln University Bachelor of Agriculture student said she always loved animals and enjoyed working with them.

“Since I was always going to study it seemed ideal to stay in the area, study at a well-known agricultural-based university and develop my skills and extend my knowledge.

“Agriculture especially being a science-focused degree is exactly what I find very interesting and absolutely love to do as my future degree".

She wants to work in the farming industry in New Zealand when she finishes her degree.

“I love both the practical and theoretical side, might aspire to manage a farm, do research, ideally involving to directly work with animals.

"I cannot wait to be able to elect more specific courses of my degree, develop my interests and see what the next years at Lincoln bring.

She said Lincoln was very friendly, and had an open-minded atmosphere.

“The agricultural focus of the University is very interesting and varied, so that I would not choose any other anyway.”

She said lecturers and staff were very helpful, and passionate about what they do, and were  happy to explain and share their knowledge.

“Facilities on campus are very modern, and the campus is very green and offers a great, enjoyable atmosphere.

“There are lots of different events and groups on campus organising activities as well.”

She works part time on one of the University’s sheep farms.

“There are lots of jobs advertised on different boards so you should be able to find something if you keep an eye out or have any relevant experience.

“Lincoln is a great university to study any agriculture/ ecology related degrees and New Zealand an amazing country to study in. Ideal for a semester abroad.”
