Sudarshan Murali, Master of Tourism Management

Sudarshan was working in Mumbai when he realised a postgraduate qualificatio would offer him more options to grow

He also fulfilled an ambition to come to New Zealand when he chose to gain that qualification at Lincoln, studying a taught master’s in Tourism Management.

“After finishing my undergraduate degree, I was working at a well-known travel management firm in Mumbai for about 9 months, and over the course of my employment, I kept assessing my growth as an individual.

“I learned that a postgraduate qualification adds to the knowledge and capabilities of a person, in a way that is much different to an undergraduate credential.

“I began researching my options. I wanted to do a master’s level course that would align with the education I pursued in the recent past (a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality & Tourism Studies). Lincoln University was the only one that stood out in terms of the courses it offered as part of the master’s.

“The university also offered me a scholarship. Add to that a dream of visiting New Zealand, and I didn’t need anything else to convince me,” Sudarshan said.

“I truly enjoy the way the professors have taught me to look at concepts. They’ve helped me develop new ways of thinking and introduced some old ways too.

“I look forward to returning to the work environment. I am researching my options. Firms that deal in sustainable tourism are an ideal match. I am looking at options in New Zealand, Australia and India, at the moment.”

He said there is a wide range of options to choose from at Lincoln, so you can design your degree the way you see fit in terms of where you want to be at the end of it and the future beyond that.

He has made use of the university’s Recreation Centre.

“Community volleyball has been my favourite part. The centre maintains a timetable that covers all kinds of sports and recreational activities, including yoga.

“Most of time there was spent playing volleyball on Friday’s with my friends from the Pacific Islands.

“LUSA also conduct a wide range of community activities from time to time and help support both domestic and international students, in every way possible.”
Lincoln University is a top choice to look at, he said.

“Choosing a course is like sketching a painting, it takes time and effort. Interact with the staff, lecturers and course coordinators, they certainly help in enabling you to craft your course. They answers any questions you have and take care of all student needs while you spend your time at Lincoln. They are truly an admirable whanau (family).
