Abby Hamilton, Master of Science (Research)
Abby’s research will help shape how tourism responds to climate change.
Studying online from her home in Te Tai Poutini West Coast, Abby Hamilton dove into climate change research through a seldom-considered cultural lens. During her Master of Applied Science, she explored how Māori-led tourism businesses were preparing for the impacts of climate change.
The ability to study online meant Abby could not only study at home, but deeply engage with the community through her research.
Abby already held a Graduate Diploma in Teacher and Learning, as well as practical experience in the parks, recreation and tourism sector. Pursing a masters allowed her to develop further in her field and opened up career opportunities. She is now leader of social studies at a local high school in Greymouth.
