PC Application Developer and Lincoln University Master of Applied Computing graduate, Chiyu He or Finn, has found the ability to learn new skills he acquired from his time at Lincoln invaluable in the
“That is the real skill you should have, because you can't always just do what you are good at,” Finn said.
He also credits the three-month English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course he did at Lincoln before his main course as making him well-prepared for study.
“It made me familiar with the academic paper early and help me a lot with my English speaking and listening.”
He chose to travel from Sichuan, China to study at Lincoln University as there were some courses, such as in GIS and Neural Networks, which he saw as being able to give him an advantage in his future IT career.
What's more, he said, the practical project which is part of the Master of Applied Computing programme “gave me a lot of experience, that can help me find a suitable job more efficiently”.
His plans came to fruition.
He started in his PC Application Developer role as a student intern, then received a formal job offer after he graduated.
“Lincoln University is really a good place for studying. It is really a beautiful and quiet place.
“There are all kinds of student activities, such as garden BBQ and free lunches. What's more, you may have the chance one day to see an alpaca in front of the library.”
Lecturers and staff are “really nice and kind. They gave me a lot of help”.
He recommends others follow his path to Lincoln.
“Don't let your younger years pass with regret.”
